What I Did
UX, Branding
Hometown is a physical (Neighborhood Box) and digital (Website) solution. The Neighborhood Box contains items that will be both useful and comforting to new immigrants while the website will encourage communication and support between 'Neighbors' and 'Newcomers.' Everything will be tailored to the receiver's language and new neighborhood. The exploration below illustrates a Russian immigrant moving to Forest Hills, Queens.
After taking a look at some of the resources available for new immigrants in New York City, I found that most of the information and collateral is dense, unfriendly, and pure legal-speak. There is information about finding a lawyer to represent you but nothing about what New Yorkers like do for fun. Furthermore, the visual language of these scattered resources is sterile and intimidating.
